This book is the first written account of the Dodge Daytona and Chrysler Laser ever produced. The book is a year by year history of the development of the G-Body Dodge Daytona and Chrysler Laser. The book provides far more information and detail than what is shown in this website. Additionally, there are several close-up chapters providing information relating to the Laser and Daytona, such as:
Complete, detailed photographs of every model year of the Daytona and Laser, including close-up front and rear shots, engine shots, and interior pictures.
Specific information on every turbocharged engine ever installed in the Daytona and Laser, including the Turbo I, II, III, and IV. The 3.0-liter V-6 is also highlighted. Size and outputs specifics are included, both in text and table format. Photos of each engine are also provided.
A chapter focusing on Carroll Shelby’s influence on Dodge performance during the eighties is presented. His involvement in engine and suspension development for Dodge is discussed, from his partnership at the Chrysler Shelby Performance Center, through his creation of Dodge Shelby vehicles at Shelby Automotive. Also included are pictures of several engine and suspension concepts that were created at the performance center, such as the Daytona-4 and the innovative all-wheel drive system.
A chapter focusing on the development of the 2.2-liter engine, which was so instrumental to the performance characteristics of the Daytona and Laser. This chapter also includes a year-by-year timeline on the development of the 2.2-liter engine, which has never been available previously in print.
Excerpts of an interview with Pete Hagenbuch, who was an engine development engineer at Chrysler from 1958-87. He provides fascinating commentary on the internal decision making and politics that went into engine development at Chrysler during the eighties.
A chapter focusing on the 1990 Dodge Daytona IROC R/T concept vehicle. This chapter includes pictures and technical highlights of this concept vehicle that would greatly influence the 1992-93 Daytona styling.
Photographs of the last Dodge Daytona ever built, taken in March, 1993, as the car was rolling down the assembly line.
A special section focusing on the only Dodge Daytona ever built with prototype pop-up T-Tops, which flipped open like individual sunroofs. Close-up photos of this unique design are also provided.
Over 180 black and white photographs of the Dodge Daytona and Chrysler Laser, Most of these photos were shot by the author himself, and are exclusive to this book. The photographs provide close-up shots of the entire vehicle, including engine, interior, and details specific to each model. There is even a section providing a photo of nearly all the different wheels that were available on the Laser and Daytona.
A 10-page full color section of detailed photographs.
Over 65 tables are provided throughout this book. These tables provide a
quick reference to powertrain options, engine specifications, complete
production totals, model availability in each year, color options, and
production totals for the more popular options.
